Classic Sushi Rolls

Ingredients:
- 2 cups sushi rice
- 2 1/2 cups water
- 1/2 cup rice vinegar
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- Nori (seaweed sheets)
- Filling options: sliced avocado, cucumber strips, crab sticks, smoked salmon, cream cheese
- Soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger for serving

Instructions:
1. Rinse the sushi rice thoroughly until the water runs clear. Combine the rice and water in a rice cooker or pot and cook according to package instructions.
2. In a small saucepan, combine rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Heat until the sugar dissolves. Allow the mixture to cool.
3. Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a large bowl and gently fold in the vinegar mixture. Allow the rice to cool to room temperature.
4. Place a bamboo sushi mat on a flat surface and cover it with plastic wrap. Lay a sheet of nori on the mat, shiny side down.
5. Wet your hands slightly to prevent sticking and spread a thin layer of rice over the nori, leaving a 1-inch border at the top.
6. Arrange your desired fillings in a line across the bottom third of the rice.
7. Lift the mat and roll it away from you, pressing gently but firmly to create a tight roll. Continue until you reach the border of the nori.
8. Use a sharp knife dipped in water to slice the roll into bite-sized pieces.
9. Serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side.
